SBE Helps Obtain an $8.3 Million Class Action Settlement Against Anthem Blue Cross

Attorneys from Shernoff Bidart Echeverria LLP and Consumer Watchdog agreed to a settlement with Anthem Blue Cross on behalf of healthcare consumers in California. The settlement agreement resolves two lawsuits challenging mid-year changes Anthem made to individual California policies in 2011.

Anthem Blue Cross in California will no longer make mid-year changes to individual customers’ annual deductibles, co-pays, or other out-of-pocket costs and will refund $8.3 million to consumers. Customers of Anthem Blue Cross received reimbursements ranging from $167 to as much as $19,000 depending on their damages.

The firm also successfully negotiated attorneys fees in this matter.
