After accusing 92-year-old of stealing his own car, Hartford offers settlement
In an embarrassing episode of claims-handling for Hartford, a company investigator intimated that 92-year-old Clinton Hutchison was complicit in the disappearance of his own Buick, which had been stolen from his home and found burned beyond recognition in the local mountains. Hartford denied the claim.
As soon as Hutchison brought the matter to SBE, attorney Howard Shernoff immediately filed suit against the carrier. Shortly after filing, the incredible story aired on network television. Soon thereafter, Hartford agreed to settle the case before it could go any further.
