$2.23 million verdict awarded to Monterey Park police officer

A Los Angeles Superior Court jury in Glendale, CA awarded a Monterey Park Police Department Sergeant and his wife $2,239,366.26 after he was severely injured in a traffic accident in 2009.
Scott Wiese, a 26-year veteran and sergeant, suffered severe injuries while on-duty for the City of Monterey Park. An Athens Services truck, driving on the wrong side of the street, pulled in front of Officer Wiese and slammed into his motorcycle causing significant orthopedic and urological injuries. Athens Services is a City of Industry-based waste collection and recycling services company.
The case is Wiese et al. v. Athens Disposal Company, Inc. et al. As a result of his injuries, officer Wiese fractured both wrists and severely bruised his pelvis. More specifically, he suffered bilateral comminuted wrist fractures and a torn urethra.
